Wrongfully Convicted Man Awarded $14 Million
A federal jury recently awarded fourteen million dollars to a man who spent almost fifteen years in prison after he was wrongly convicted in the 1988 killing of a twelve-year-old girl. The jury in the United States District Court awarded Shawn Drumgold with compensatory damages on Wednesday. Drumgold had accused Boston police detective Timothy Callahan of violating his civil rights. The jury found that Drumgold’s conviction was helped by the fact that Callahan put a key witness up in a motel, provided meals, and even gave him money during the trial.
