Woman in Womb-Cutting Case Charged with Murder

A Massachusetts woman is charged with murder after she allegedly faked her own pregnancy, killed her pregnant friend, cut the baby from her womb, and kidnapped the infant. Julie Corey was initially charged with kidnapping after authorities found her and the baby in a homeless shelter in Plymouth, N.H., in July.

DNA tests confirmed that the baby was cut from the womb of Darlene Haynes. Haynes, who was eight months pregnant when she was killed, was found dead in her Worcester home two days before Corey’s arrest. Haynes and her boyfriend were friends with Corey and her boyfriend. In the months before Haynes was killed, Corey told her family and boyfriend that she was pregnant.
