Woman Admits Rape Lie that Convicted Man
A New Jersey woman has pleaded guilty to perjury for creating a false story about a gang rape that sent an innocent man to prison. Biurny Peguero told police that she had been kidnapped and raped at knifepoint by three men in 2005, one of whom was (she said) William McCaffrey. McCaffrey was later convicted and sentenced to twenty years in prison – he had served three years before Peguero admitted that she had lied about it.
DNA testing showed that material from a bite on McCaffrey’s arm was in fact not McCaffrey’s, and he was released in August. She faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
