Teen Barred from Abortion Protest Sues School
A high school student from New Jersey has filed a federal lawsuit in which she claims administrators violated her religious and free speech rights by barring her from a silent abortion protest. The girl, who was identified as C.H. in court papers, says that she asked her high school’s principal for permission to join the Pro Life Day of Silent Solidarity. She had planned to remain silent except when called on in class, and wanted to wear an armband with the word “life” on it. She also wanted to distribute anti-abortion pamphlets.
The superindendent for the school says the armband would have violated the school’s dress code, and that the district does not allow students to pass out literature at school.
