Tax Dodgers Apply for IRS Amnesty
The IRS reported that over seven and a half thousand tax dodgers have applied for a new amnesty program that promises no jail time for tax cheats that come forward. The program also promises to reduce penalties and fines for those that admit to cheating or lying on tax forms. The Commissioner for the IRS, Doug Shulman, says that response to the program was at an unprecedented level.
The tax dodgers were hiding money in more than seventy different countries and on every continent except Antarctica, Shulman says. Accounts ranged between a little over ten thousand dollars to well over one hundred million dollars. The program ends on Thursday.
