Stabbed Man Calls 911, Orders Coffee

A man who walked into a Michigan diner with a 5-inch knife stuck in his chest ordered a coffee and complained only about the cold weather. The 52-year-old man, who has not been identified, called a 911 operator in Warren on Sunday night to ask that an ambulance be sent to Bray’s, an eatery in neighboring Hazel Park. He said he had been stabbed during an attempted robbery half a mile away, then walked to the restaurant and called 911 from a pay phone.

On a recording of the call, the man gives a vague description of his attacker before saying, “I’m gonna sit down at Bray’s ’cause they got a chair and it’s cold out here.” Restaurant employee George Mirdita tells The Detroit News the man calmly ordered coffee. Police said Tuesday that the man is recovering.

Ex-Deacon gets Eleven Years for Robbery Attempt

A South Carolina ex-deacon has been sentenced to eleven years for attempting to rob a bank. Bruce Windsor’s family in the past blamed the crime on troubles related to the financial meltdown, though relatives said Thursday he has mental health issues.

More than 100 supporters crowded into a Spartanburg courtroom as U.S. District Judge Henry Floyd sentenced him. The father of four pleaded guilty in October to federal bank robbery and weapons charges. He faced up to 25 years in prison.

Motivational Speaker Accused in Las Vegas Slaying

Authorities say a motivational speaker told police that he and a Las Vegas woman were in a meditation session in her home when he decided to kill her. Michael Lane of Britain is facing murder and robbery with a deadly weapon charges, and a single count of grand larceny auto. He is accused of the killing of forty-four-year-old Ginger Candela.

Authorities say Candela was found dead in her garage on November 30th, and that Lane was arrested on December 4th. Lane struck Candela with a pan, and used an electrical cord to strangle her.

Three Arrested in Home Invasion

Three men have been arrested after a violent robbery took place at an Orange County mansion Tuesday. Two suspects are still being sought. Three people at the home suffered injuries to the head, with one of them being taken to the hospital. Four armed men entered the home while another waited outside – the men got away with cash and jewelry.

Three of the men were arrested after an eleven-hour hunt. Police say it isn’t clear whether the men knew anyone at the home, or what their motive may have been. The three men arrested are Mickael Hastings, Antoine Boyd, and Peter Paturzo. Each of them is being held on a bail of $100,000.

Would-be Robber Arrives Too Late

A would-be bank robber showed up at 5:36 p.m. to a Guardian Credit Union bank in Wisconsin, ready to rob the place, but forgot one important fact – the bank was closed after 5:30. Security tapes show a man in a ski mask approaching the first set of doors with a gun on Wednesday, apparently not realizing the bank was closed. The second set of doors was locked – police were called, but the man had left by the time they got there.

Police say that they are reviewing security tapes and investigating the robbery. Authorities say the late robbery was likely a result of poor planning or perhaps even traffic.

Police Search for Man who Raped Blind Woman

Philadelphia police are searching for the man they believe beat and raped a blind woman in her home. The fifty-year-old victim was approaching the front door of her home on Sunday afternoon when she was attacked from behind. She was pushed into her home, beaten, and then raped. She is currently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are not sure how long the attack lasted, but a SWAT team was sent to the home at about five in the evening because the victim was not sure if the man had left. The woman’s home was also ransacked, and authorities are investigating whether more than one attacker was involved.

Pastor Robbed after Answering Door

Lincoln, Nebraska police are investigating the armed robbery of a pastor who was held at knifepoint at his church. Police say that fifty-two-year-old Christopher Anderson opened the door to Glad Tidings Assembly of God for someone late Saturday night. The man asked for money, and Anderson said he didn’t have any to give. Anderson said that when he went to close the door, the man grabbed him and slammed his face onto a table.

Police say that the robber then held a knife to Anderson’s face and took his wallet, watch, and gold wedding ring. Authorities have not made any arrests yet.

Police Searching for “Bad Breath Bandit”

Detroit police are currently searching for a bank robber who tellers say had yellowed teeth and unusually offensive breath. The man hit the same Charter One branch in October, and again last week. Lieutenant William Wilson says that bank tellers described the man as tall, lean, and “having very offensive breath and real yellow teeth.”

Witnesses have also described the robber as looking and smelling very dirty. Authorities say that he showed employees at the bank a note demanding money. It was implied that he was carrying a gun, but tellers did not actually see one. The suspect made off with roughly one thousand dollars in the latest robbery.

Tennessee Executes Man who Killed Three in 1980

The man who spent almost thirty years on death row for killing three people while robbing a convenience store in Nashville in 1980 has been executed. The Tennessee Corrections Department reported that fifty-three-year-old Cecil C. Johnson Jr. was pronounced dead at 1:24 a.m. on Wednesday, at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville. The victims of the robbery were the twelve-year-old son of the market owner, Bobby Bell Jr., and two men who were sitting in a cab outside.

Johnson had been a twenty-three-year-old kitchen worker at a hospital at the time. His father turned him in two days after the shootings. Johnson is the sixth person put to death in Tennessee since 2000.

Thieves Steal $100,000 in Food, Toys for Poor

Several thieves in Orange County have stolen over $100,000 worth of toys and food that were donated to the poor, forcing the agency to scramble for Christmas. James Colgrove of the Orange County Police Department says that the robbers broke into the underground storage facility where the goods were being kept, then took an estimated 20,000 pounds of food and roughly $25,000 in toys.

The food and toys had been donated to the United Labor Agency of Orange County. Colgrove says that the goods had been collected for homeless families and the families of those that had recently lost their jobs. Several items that were donated for a raffle had also been taken.
