Pot More Popular with Teens, Study Shows
The chief anti-drug official of Barack Obama’s administration says that marijuana is becoming more popular with teenagers in the United States. He also says that teenagers are smoking fewer cigarettes, drinking less, and using fewer methamphetamines. The survey, released on Monday, covered a total of almost fifty thousand eighth, tenth, and twelfth graders.
The study showed that roughly twenty percent of the twelfth graders said they had used marijuana in the past month, up from about eighteen percent in 2006. Lloyd Johnston, who directed the study, says that teenagers are more likely to use marijuana and prescription drugs, and that they are less likely to see drugs like ecstasy and marijuana as harmful.
