Police Fatally Shoot CD Peddler in Times Square Shootout
A twenty-five-year-old CD peddler was fatally wounded in a shootout with police in Times Square on Thursday. Raymond Martinez was no ordinary peddler, police say. He was carrying a loaded pistol and business cards from gun dealers. An officer asked Martinez for his tax stamp (which is required for vendors to sell on the street), and Martinez took off running.
When the officer pursued him, Martinez turned and fired two rounds from a thirty-round magazine before the pistol jammed. The officer in pursuit fired four times, striking Martinez in the chest and arms and fatally wounding him. Investigators are looking into whether Martinez was selling illegal weapons.
