Ohio Inmate Traumatized After Failed Execution
The lawyer of an Ohio inmate said that trying to put him to death a week after his failed execution could be a disaster. Romell Brown, whose execution was halted after an unprecendented two hours, is recovering from mental and physical trauma, said his attorney on Wednesday. His attorney, Adele Shank, said “It went so badly when he was walking in without injured veins, to go forward so soon afterward just seems to be inviting disaster.”
Brown’s execution was halted and he was given a one-week reprieve, virtually unheard of since the nation resumed executions in the 1970s. Shank said one option was to consider a request for clemency and to commute Brown’s sentence.
