NY Man Holds Seven Hostage at Gunpoint

A man who held seven people hostage at gunpoint overnight in an apartment building in Syracuse, New York, has been found dead. Police responded to a call about an armed robbery when shots were fired at them from a second-story apartment. No officers were injured.

Authorities say that seven people were being held hostage in the apartment. Six of them were rescued at about midnight. The standoff ended when the last hostage told authorities he thought the gunman was dead. Police Chief Gary Miguel reported that a SWAT team entered the building at about four in the morning on Monday and found the gunman’s body in a stairwell. Miguel said it wasn’t clear whether the gunman had shot himself or was killed by police. His name has not been released.
