NY Lawyer in Terror Case gets Prison
A New York federal appeals court has ordered a civil rights lawyer convicted of terrorism to begin her prison sentence. Lynne Stewart’s conviction was upheld in the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan. She was convicted of smuggling messages between a client and a terrorist group.
Stewart was sentenced to just over two years in prison. The judge was advised to reconsider the length of her sentence because it was not considered whether she committed perjury at the trial.
