New York Officials Rescind Mandatory H1N1 Vaccine
Health officials from New York have recently suspended a ruling that would have forced health care workers statewide to get vaccinated against swine flu. The order would have been effective by the end of November, and those refusing to comply with it could have lost their jobs. Health officials said they rescinded the order because the vaccine is in short supply – in fact, New York will only be receiving about a quarter of their anticipated supply of the vaccine, which is being reserved for those at high risk of serious illness.
“New evidence is showing that H1N1 can be especially virulent to pregnant women and young people – so they should get vaccinated first,” said Dr. Richard Daines, the state health commissioner.
