New Proposal in Philadelphia Transit Strike
Governor Ed Rendell said on Friday that a new proposal has been sent to the Philadelphia transportation workers’ union in an effort to end the current strike. The strike has been going on for four days. The union is currently reviewing the proposal sent to them by the Southern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, Rendell told press.
Rendell has been working on negotiations between the agency and the Transportation Workers Union Local 234, which represents roughly five thousand bus drivers, subway conductors, mechanics, and trolley operators. He hopes there will be an agreement that will have trains and buses running by Friday night.
