NBC Universal in $2M Battle Over Fonts
A company that designs and releases fonts is sueing NBC Universal for at least two million dollars over the entertainment corporation’s use of its fonts. In a lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York on Tuesday, Font Bureau Inc. says that NBC, part of General Electric Co., used unauthorized copies of a computer software with three of their fonts – “Bureau Grotesque,” “Interstate,” and “Antenna.”
The company, based out of Boston, reported that NBC had only paid liscensing for one unit, allowing the company to use the software in only one location. Font Bureau argues in their suit that NBC’s copying of the fonts has damaged its liscensing revenue and also “relationships with present and prospective customers” who want exclusive rights to the fonts.
