Mental Illness Broke Accused Texas Mom
Otty Sanchez spent six weeks in a mental hospital for what, at the time, physicians thought was stress due to her just having become a mother. She had been wandering around a San Antonio drug store, shopping for an imaginary trip to China. Her three-week-old son was found six days later, decapitated, and missing several fingers and toes. Police say the mother insisted that the devil made her do it. “There was no, ‘Here, she’s suffering from postpartum psychosis – you better do this, do that and keep an eye on her every minute,’” said Ed Camara, Sanchez’s attorney. “They had no idea what they’re dealing with until after this happened.”
Sanchez, age thirty-three, has been charged with capital murder for the death of her son.
