Maryland Stimulus Jobs at 4,464
State officials from Maryland have reported 4,464 jobs that were directly created or saved by the federal stimulus package. Governor Martin O’Malley’s senior advisor, Michael Enright, says that the state expects further benefits from the plan to begin appearing in greater number in the next reporting period. Maryland also attributes over eight thousand “induced” jobs, which the state says were created by the increased consumer activity created by the stimulus.
State officials also credit one and a half thousand “indirect” jobs, which are supported by funded work but are not directly paid by stimulus dollars. “We have not yet begun to see the real wave of recovery act dollars,” Enright said. “The big numbers are still coming. Next quarter is when you’re going to see a lot more job creation, a lot more dollars out the door.”
