Man Gets 75 Years for Mugging 101-Year-Old

A man in New York City who mugged a 101-year-old woman on her way to church has been sentenced to seventy-five years in prison. Jack Rhodes, a resident of Queens, was sentenced on Wednesday after being convicted of victimizing three women. One of the women is Rose Morat, who is now 103. Authorities said that the forty-seven-year-old Rhodes targeted most of the women because of their age, which classifies his actions as hate crimes.

A surveillance camera recorded the 2007 attack, showing Morat leaving her apartment using a walker before being attacked. Morat suffered a cheekbone fracture and multiple bruises. Her attacker got thirty-three dollars.
