Lawsuit Trial Against Zometa Maker Begins
A Montana woman’s lawsuit against Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. has gone to trial, and attorneys say the verdict could have national significance. Peggy L. Stevens sued the Swiss drug company last year, on charges of professional negligence for the company’s failure to disclose health risks associated with the bone-strengthening medicine Zometa. Stevens suffers from lymphoma, and developed a degenerative jaw disorder after using the drug.
Novartis faces lawsuits from over five hundred fifty plaintiffs nationwide, and many have been consolidated in courts in Tennessee and New Jersey.
