Kan. Attorney General Worried DNA Backlog Hurting Crime Efforts
The attorney general of Kansas said on Tuesday that a state laboratory with a backlog of almost forty thousand DNA samples and budget problems could keep some crimes unsolved for even longer. Attorney General Steve Six said the Kansas Bureau of Investigation Laboratory handling DNA testing does not have sufficient money to keep up with the amount of samples submitted by law enforcement.
State funding for the laboratory is down by almost five percent from two years ago, and the share of state dollars for the KBI has dropped by almost thirteen percent.
