Job Competition at its Toughest
The number of job seekers competing for each available job has reached the highest point since the beginning of the current recession, according to a recent government survey. This employment crisis is expected to get even worse as companies become more and more reluctant to hire new staff. Top economists expect a jobless recovery, and are putting pressure on Obama and the administration to create new jobs.
There are currently an average of 6.3 unemployed workers competing for each available job, according to a report by the Department of Labor. This is the highest since the Dept. began tracking the statistics nine years ago – up from just 1.7 per job when the recession began.
