Investigators Think Landfill Body is Missing Fla. Girl
Authorities currently believe that a body discovered in a Georgia landfill is that of seven-year-old Somer Thompson, who went missing as she walked home from school. Rick Beseler, the sheriff in charge of her case, said on Thursday that the identification was based on her clothing and a birthmark that matched Somer’s. Detectives said they saw the legs first, and then found the rest of the body covered with garbage on Wednesday in a Georgia landfill near the state line shared with Florida.
Somer’s family is “torn up” after receiving the news. Her aunt Laura Holt said she hopes the authorities find the girl’s killer. “I don’t think they deserve to live,” Holt said. “I don’t think there’s anything worse that a person can do – to kill a child and dump her in the dump like a piece of trash?”
