Helicopter and Plane Collision Prompts Widow’s Lawsuit
After husband Steven Altman, a small plane pilot, died in an August 8 collision with a helicopter over the Hudson river, his widow, Pamela Altman, filed a wrongful death suit.
The crash occurred between New York and New Jersey killing a total of 9 people between the 2 aircraft. Steven Altman, his nephew and brother were among those killed as well as the helicopter pilot and five Italian tourists.
Pamela Altman, who is seeking 1.3 million in damages, is suing the helicopter tour company and its owner. She is also pursuing helicopter maker American Eurocopter, under product liability laws.
Mrs. Altma asserts that tour compnay Liberty Helicopters and owner Meridian Consulting I have a “horrid history of accidents” and that manufacturer, American Eurocopter, failed to equip the chopper with sufficient safety equipment.
