Health Overhaul Vote in Senate
President Obama’s plan to revamp the nation’s health care system is about to become even closer to reality. The Senate Finance Committee was poised on Tuesday to approve legislation that would require virtually every American to purchase insurance, as well as a host of other changes to the nation’s two and a half trillion dollar medical system. There is still a lot of work to be done before a bill can be placed on Obama’s desk, but the Finance Committee’s action will mark a significant step forward.
The major obstacles towards the health care reformation, the negotionation sessions held by Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) in order to attempt to pass a bipartisan bill, were ultimately unsuccessful. Since the Democrats hold a thirteen to ten majority on the committee, the outcome of Tuesday’s vote to move the bill forward is not in any doubt.
