Guantanamo Detainee Case Hits Supreme Court

The Supreme Court agreed Tuesday to make a decision on whether or not Guantanamo detainees who are considered “no threat” can be ordered to be released in the United States. Both the Obama administration and Congress have raised objections about the idea. This pertains primarily to prisoners who have nowhere else to go. The case is expected to further complicate the current administration’s plan to close the Guantanamo Bay prison.

Two hundred and twenty men are still being held in the Guantanamo Bay prison. In the court’s fourth look at the terror-suspects detention system, which was created by the Bush administration following the September 11th attacks.
