GOP, Some Liberals Dismiss Obama Peace Prize
The Nobel Peace Prize awarded to President Obama has drawn criticism from not only conservatives, but many liberals as well. Critics say he hasn’t done enough to wind down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Michael Steele, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, asked “What has President Obama actually accomplished?” He also commented, “It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights.”
Two Democrats who had also won the Nobel Peace Prize congratulated Obama. Former President Jimmy Carter, who received the prize in 2002, said Obama’s selection was “a bold statement of international support for his vision and commitment.” Former Vice President Al Gore said the prize was “…extremely well-deserved.”
