Doctor Says Florida Teen “Not Out of the Woods Yet”

A doctor in Miami has said that the teenager who was doused with flammable liquid and set on fire by five other teens is doing “as well as can be expected.” Dr. Nicholas Namias at the Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma Center said on Wednesday that fifteen-year-old Michael Brewer’s injuries are among the worst he has seen, and that he is “not out of the woods yet.”

Brewer was hospitalized after receiving burns over three-quarters of his body – although his face was not badly burned, his torso and arms were, and he is susceptible to infection and organ failure during his period of recovery. The attack was reportedly due to Brewer’s attempt to stop the robbery of his father’s bicycle the day before. Five teenagers have been charged with aggravated battery.
