Court Won’t Block Sex Abuse Papers’ Release

The Supreme Court recently refused to block the documents created by the sexual abuse lawsuits against Connecticut priests from release. The Roman Catholic diocese in Bridgeport, Conn. asked the Supreme Court on Monday if they would shield the priests involved in the lawsuits from public attention by keeping the documents from being released – the court refused. Several newspapers are actively seeking the release of over twelve thousand pages from twenty-three lawsuits against six priests. Courts in Connecticut have ruled that the papers be made public. The cases concerning the sexual abuse claims were settled in 2001.
