Colorado Balloon Boy Parents Plead Guilty

The parents of a Colorado boy who claimed their son had climbed aboard a helium balloon have pleaded guilty to charges that could result in jail time. Richard Heene pleaded guilty to a felony charge of attempting to influence a public servant on Friday, while his wife, Mayumi Heene, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of false reporting. The attorney for the Heenes, David Lane, said that the pleas are part of an agreement to avoid deportation of Mayumi Heene in case she is convicted of greater charges.

Sentencing will be held at a later date, but both expect to face probation, with Richard facing a potential jail sentence.
