Army Vet Indicted on Gun Charge
A U.S. Army veteran who authorities say threatened to go on a shooting spree at a Veterans Affairs hospital in South Illinois has been indicted on a gun charge. A federal grand jury indicted twenty-nine-year-old Mark Harmon on a single count of attempted possession of a firearm on federal property with the intent to commit a crime.
The indictment, filed Tuesday, replaced a criminal complaint that accused Harmon of having a handgun last month outside the VA hospital in Marion after calling a nurse and saying he was going to “fill the place with lead.” Authorities say they found a loaded Glock 23 semiautomatic handgun and a full magazine in Harmon’s truck. He is currently jailed without bond.
