Alabama Arms Dealer Pleads Guilty in Smuggling Case
A Belgian arms dealer has entered a guilty plea in an Alabama court to conspiracy to illegally export F-5 fighter jet engines and other parts from the United States to Iran. Jacques Monsieur and Dara Fotouhi (an Iranian national residing in France) were charged with six counts of conspiracy, money laundering, and smuggling. Monsieur, age fifty-six, entered the guilty plea on Monday. Fotouhi has not yet been taken into custody.
Charges were filed in Alabama because the two men allegedly wired money to a financial institution in Mobile. Monsieur is currently facing a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison. His defense attorney, Arthur Madden, said that the plea agreement spoke for itself, and did not comment further.
