1968 Hijacker Faces Arraignment
The man accused of using weapons hidden in a diaper bag to hijack a plane from New York City and divert it to Cuba in 1968 is facing an arraignment in New York City. Luis Armando Pena Soltren was arrested on Sunday after he arrived in New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on a flight from Cuba. Authorities said he was wanted for his role in the hijacking of a Pan Am flight bound for Puerto Rico.
Soltren will be arraigned on Tuesday in Manhattan, and is currently in custody and could not be reached for any comment. There is no local telephone listing for him, and authorities will not say if he has relatives in the area. Prosecutors said that two other men, arrested in the 1970s, both pleaded guilty to taking part in the hijacking.
